Bellbridge Lake Hume Rotary Club Donation
In past years, our Club have helped the Bellbridge Lake Hume Rotary Club with the cycle races they run. That help was recognised and repaid recently by way of a $500 sponsorship.
Graham Wade entered the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride last year to raise money for prostate cancer research, so he entered again this year. There was no ride organised in the Albury Wodonga area this year, so he entered the Myrtleford Ride taking place on Sunday 25th September 2016.
Graham’s Brother-in-law, Kevin Snaidero (Reconnect, Wodonga), is the newly elected President of the Bellbridge Lake Hume Rotary Club. Kevin suggested Graham write to the Bellbridge Rotary Club to seek sponsorship for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, as the club may be interested in sponsoring such an event.
The members of the Rotary club were told of the idea behind the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), how it is a worldwide event, and how it raises money for prostate cancer research. It was informed that although the event is a worldwide event, the money raised in Australia, stays in Australia.
The Rotary Club asked Kevin (as President) what clubs Graham belonged to. When Kevin told them he was a member of the Albury Wodonga Ulysses Club Inc., they immediately sponsored him to the amount of $500. They cited that this was because the Albury Wodonga Ulysses Club have been extremely helpful to their club over the years. This was because the Ulysses Club has helped as marshals etc., with their Granya Grind pushbike races.
While Graham requested sponsorship to go on the ride as an individual, when the Bellbridge Rotary Club found out he was a Ulysses member, they generously gave $500 toward his registration on the DGR. Basically, the donation was made because of his membership with the Ulysses Club Inc. and NOT just because he’s a good bloke, raising money for prostate cancer research.
Graham admits he wasn’t a part of that help, so he doesn’t see the Bellbridge Rotary Club’s donation is being for him, but for the Albury Wodonga Ulysses Club Inc..
He has also noted that on the sponsorship section of the DRG website. And, that’s why this has been put on this website, so you all know the donation is for the Ulysses Club Inc. Albury Wodonga Branch not for Graham Wade.
